Siwa Winter School,

2020

This workshop is a seven-day intensive program in Siwa with the Environmental Architecture and Urbanism Program of Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Engineering in Ain Shams University. 28 participants discovered the ancient technique of Rammed Earth construction through new processes and technologies. The wall was built from start to finish, including foundation, wall assembly, and disassembly of the formwork, compaction, finishes, and curing process. Besides the building activities, participants explored and learned about Siwa’s rich architecture, landmarks, and nature, as well as explored local earth building techniques. The wall was built as a signage board for the Talist Ecolodge in Siwa.
