designed for a purpose, built for a cause.

Currently under construction for the small village of Al Aziziyah in the Fayoum Oasis, a medical center to meet the dire needs of village residents and neighboring villages. Residents of Al Aziziyah had been traveling for as much as an hour to reach the nearest medical facilities before the construction of the medical center. The project was designed and built by Handover in collaboration with donors, medical specialists, and locals. It holds 6 clinics, emergency treatment areas, and imaging and radiology facilities to adhere to many of the residents’ needs.

We adopted a human-centered design approach to ensure that every group of stakeholders was aligned on the vision for the project. The land was generously donated by a local elder to the Terous Misr Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2012. Terous Misr develops and coordinates projects that bring together civil society, government, and the private sector to maximize integration and impact within the development sector. The foundation owns and operates several medical facilities across the country, particularly in underserved areas.

In collaboration with Terous Misr, Hand Over received a grant from the Re:arc Institute to develop this project. Re:arc Institute is a philanthropic initiative that supports the creation of community-led development solutions. With the local community, Terous Misr, Re:arc Institute, and Hand Over all sharing a common goal, we worked collaboratively through multiple iterations to ensure that the final proposal truly reflected the needs and aspirations of the community.
