The main idea of the project was to provide a space for our client, Kiwa, to be used as a residential unit for their team and another space to be used as an administrative space so they conduct their work and another space that will act as a storage area for their crops. Kiwa is an agricultural initiative that aims to introduce a new technique for agricultural activities to save water and resources and to produce organic crops. The idea of building their space using natural materials was very applicable to them, because most of the materials was available close to the site and it promotes the same values that they promote in their industry. This project is considered a break-through in terms of an applicable solution for such application. There are a lot of agricultural startups and clients who owns ranches and lands and wants an economical solution and a solution that won’t affect their land if they wished to demolish it at any time for any reason. The design process was also very participatory with the design, we didn’t enforce or suggested a design from our own, they were very involved in all the processes. The building was compared to other conventional building through energy modeling software and it proved to save 40 % carbon emissions, and 35 % less operational energy. The main building technique is rammed earth technique; the foundation was built using limestone bricks. The roof is vaulted roofing system. The passive design techniques were adapted to allow more natural light and better ventilation for the building.
